Prim. Rory. Two twelve year olds with only one slip in the bowl. The odds had been entirely in their favours and it hadn't mattered. And myself and Gale, their eligible siblings, who are being denied the chance to take their place. Up until now, family has been the only incentive to stay in line; to live in the districts without dissent. What now? What is left if not family? I barely register Rory being introduced or Effie Trinket's obligatory prattle, already too buried in my own grief, when the unthinkable happens. A hand raises, firm and steady among the sea of unrest ahead. "I volunteer." ----- What if Katniss hadn't been allowed to volunteer, on the basis that she hadn't followed the correct protocol?
