Caroline (Carol) Yang is the daughter of two very successful surgeons in Zurich, Switzerland. But when her mother decides to move back to her hometown in Seattle, Carol is forced upon a new life. She meets Rose, the adopted daughter of the prestigious award-winning surgeon Meredith Grey, and Alex, the daughter of well-known firefighters Captain Andrea Herrera and Chief Robert Sullivan. The three of them battle through the hardships of middle school together, while also dealing with the struggles of their parents.

Meredith Grey, double board certified surgeon in both neuro and general. She is a child prodigy and has been offered chief at Seattle Grace stealing it right under from Derek Shepherd's nose. She hasn't had it easy though she has had a bad past and has done everything to escape it. She took her new job in Seattle for a better life for her and her 3 year old daughter.
