Death brings life into the world, and takes it away. Fate, however, gives him the reason to, and writes in the story between birth and death. 
For centuries, they coexisted as Ying and Yang, Black and White, both equally important. That is, until the Sun questioned the peace between the two, sparking a war that would rage for centuries.
However, they couldn't ignore their duties, and so chose two proxies to continue their battle. One was given the powers of fate, the ability to change the future at will. The other gained power over life and death. Both were thrown into the world, and given one simple rule, kill the other at any cost.
