When Emma Hunter wakes up on a metal slab, she already knows something is terribly wrong. It isn't until later however, that she learns how wrong it all is. Taken away from her family and her home by a secret organisation, she is plunged into a world of violence, danger and death at every turn. But it’s not the threat of death that has Emma afraid. It’s the constant experiments that the organisation’s leader, simply known as The Director, runs on all his agents that has her looking for escape. Despite this seemingly hopeless place, she finds refuge and a friend from a silent, strong and intimidating girl who guides her through her lessons, teaching Emma all she needs to survive The Director’s world. But what happens when the survivor can no longer hold on to reality?

Evil isn't born - it's built. When psychology student Emma Kilonzo joins an exclusive study group led by the brilliant Professor Kane, she believes she's helping to understand the roots of evil. But as classmates begin to die and the "research" grows darker, Emma realizes she isn't observing a study - she's trapped inside one. Every test pushes her closer to breaking, every whisper reminds her of the experiment's purpose: not to study corruption, but to create it. To survive, Emma must outthink the man who taught her everything - even if it means becoming the monster he wanted her to be.
