Achilles was dead. He knew this. The moment he touched the boat, he knew he'd been buried. But somehow, he did not feel lost. As Charon's boat crossed the Styx, and Achilles marched through the dark Underworld, he only came closer to the one thing he needed. The only victory he would ever want. ___ *EDITED* The Iliad and The Song of Achilles left out one very important thing from the story they tell: what happened when Achilles and Patroclus reunited in the afterlife, when their ashes were stored in the same urn after their deaths? WARNING: MATURE CONTENT. sexual scenes. If you're just here for the fluff, there's a line break where you can stop. DISCLAIMER: Characters belong to Homer and Madeline Miller.

When I was young, I was always told that everyone loved a tragic Greek love story. Orpheus and Eurydice. Apollo and Hyacinth. Hero and Leander. Achilles and Patroclus. I had asked my mother why so many of those stories didn't have happy endings. She just gave me a grim smile and told me how the world of the gods was tricky. There was a lot about it that I didn't understand yet. That was 13 years ago. I think I understand it now.
