From the day you start to fear the dark -or at least what's hiding in the dark- you are told monsters aren't real. You are told nothing can harm you as long as you are brave and strong.
But that's not true.
I know monsters are real because I see and live with them everyday. I know they can harm me and I know that even when you are brave and strong. They can still harm you.
There's no peace. There is no hope, and there is definitely not a sanctuary. No place is safe, no place is home. Because life in The Fallen none of that is possible, not when you are being hunted and killed by The Damned.

Monsters are everywhere, but the human ones are the worst. At least the Creatures of the Night don't kid almost families, friends, neighbors, coworkers. Once reborn they live in the night. Sure, they do all of the same twisted things that humans do to one another, but they don't hide who they are. When you see them you know death is coming. You can predict the sick things they will do to you. But when the monster looks human, you're blindsided. One minute you're in love with a guy and the next he's slitting your throat. Trust me, I speak from experience. Gruesome things that use to make me sick now makes my stomach flutter in joy. I traded charming grins and blue eyes for carved smilies and orbs of onyx. I traded sunlight for the glow of the moon. I gave up living amongst humans for creatures of the night. And I wouldn't go back for anything in the world. I am finally home.
