Addy Harding is alone. She's alone in her own house, in her school and in the small town that cannot possibly contain her. She is confronted with conquering her debilitating anxiety and learning to navigate her grief and loss, which all seems impossible until she meets River Bennett. He's the only person who seems to understand what it feels like to 1) be irretrievably broken and 2) want to get out. Together they learn to break ties with the shadows of the people they long to bring back but never can.
