"A good name is better than gold." Her mother said these words in a playful song form to little July. Her father on the other hand hated those words irrespective of what form they were used.
"A good name got me framed, fired and imprisoned for two years." Her father would say while he drank from his bottle of a local dry gin.
"The so called good name is overrated."
"Those of them in power have good names, their names are ministers, governors, senators, etcetera. But they all have a common true name, they are all "Thieves". A thief is the real good name." Her dad would finally say as he took another sip from the bottle and cleaned his mouth with the back of his hand.
"Don't say things like these to our little daughter." July's mom would counter as she carried little July on her shoulder and took her inside, away from her now drunken father.
This is the story of a unique woman, July Ejike. Born in Nigeria, West Africa.

Nkem wanted him to hold her hand just like he did the handles of her bicycle . She had also begun to love the way her name rolled off his lips. There was absolutely something wrong with her and it always reared its head whenever he was around. "I am beginning to wonder if that one sip of palmwine did something to you. Why did you drink that rubbish Ekene gave you? You seem to keep getting lost " He mumbled a bit taken aback by her lack of concentration. "Nkem!" "Isi?" "What is it? Why do you seem lost in thoughts?
