Delilah's been waiting for years. She's been waiting for the right moment. The right moment to escape from her husbands abusive grasp. She's been planning her great escape for as long as she's been married. It's so planned out, that nothing'll be able to go wrong.
This is it.
She'll finally be free.

This is a short story that I wrote for a school assignment. I decided that it would be fun to post it and get critiques. On that note, feel free to leave feedback in the comments.
This story was inspired by the picture attatched to the story and cover picture. The only limits were that it had to be 'school appropriate', and fit on a single page in 12p font, single spaced.

Clasp of life
I was scheduled to die in less than 24hrs from now. And the person who conspires to put me out of my miserable life is the one who put me through hell. His hell. My husband. I didn't mind dying. I was rather happy to finally get this thing over with. You know, get over life. But just when I was ready to rest in peace, I met her. Her beautiful blue eyes glittered with tears bringing light to this moonless night. The cold breeze brought a shiver to her fragile tiny body. She looked nothing less than a porcelain doll, delicate and clean. But she scared me when she looked at me with hope. Hope to save her. I laughed at this naive little girl. How was I to save her when I couldn't save myself? Nevertheless, I extended my hand for her to take, and with some hesitation, she wrapped her whole hand around my one finger. First time in my meaningless life I felt a spark. Spark of life enlightened in me with her one innocent touch. He was like a weed that entangled her obtruding ribcage, intertwining her lungs, drawing out every ounce of breathe. She was the colour of the small hours, those periods of transformation that separated sombre from divine. She lived for the shadows of darkness and stalked beneath the immortality of the moon. She was sublime. But even the wildest spirits find their way behind gilded bars noticing, only, when it's to late. Because nobody is invincible, despite their belief to the contrary.Complete

Ten years Delilah had lived within the walls of The Protectorate, a school of sorts for young female's such as her. 'Gifted' they had been called. But what was a gift for some, was torture for Delilah, feeling trapped within this island prison, not even knowing what the 'gift' was! None of them knew! Not yet anyhow! It was a great change in your life, and when it happened, you would know. Until then, there were rules to follow, classes to attend. Leaving the massive estate unattended and for no good reason, was forbidden. Being out after dark, was forbidden. Males, were forbidden. Even talking to one without having been told to do so, was forbidden. But why? Soon enough the 'secrets' start seeping through the woodwork as a danger arrives to the island and Delilah's world takes on a few new layers of madness. With nothing but her journal, in which she can transfer the chaos from her thoughts to the paper, Delilah tries to make sense of it all.Complete
