When you turn 4, you gain a soul mark that can be almost anything! It can be the first words your soulmate speaks to you, something describing your mate, their name, etc.
Once you find out the identity of your soulmate, you'll have a time frame of 5 years to bond, a bond formed with a simple kiss.
The timer is flipped.
Harry Potter would often listen in on his aunt telling Dudley Dursley stories. One of these stories was of soulmates and soul marks, how there is someone out there made to accept him and love him.
Never had Harry ever felt love. No, his only experience with the sentiment was from the outside looking in.
Harry had been ecstatic to know someone out there was made to care. So every night he'd stroke the words on his chest, over his heart.
If only Harry understood the meaning of those words.
