“Mum?” “Yes, dear?”a gentle voice replied the child’s voice. “Who are those ch- childeren out there?”a child’s voice spoke. “Children. Not childeren. There are no children there, dear. What are you talking about?”the mother answered her child. “Yes there are. There are four of them outside. There. Near the edge of the woods.”the child spoke again. “Oh, baby. There’s no one there. Come on, you have to get ready for school. Your hair is hardly brushed.”the mother spoke again more gently and fondly patted her child’s head. “Awright. I gotta meet Olivia near the old oak tree soon I guess. I’ll tell her about those ch-childeren.”the child said and got up from her seat at the kitchen table. “Children, dear. Children. How many times do I have to tell you?”the mother called to her child as she ran upstairs. “And change your hair ribbons! Their dirty!”the mother continued before continuing to wash the dishes. She looked up to look at the edge of the woods and tried to spot any of the children her child spoke of, but there was no one there. A tiny giggle almost made her drop the mug she was washing and she paused to see if she could hear it again. There was no sound even after a few minutes so she smiled and turned back to wash the dishes and mugs. As she put back the dishes onto a rack on the opposite counter, four silouhettes of small children appeared at the edge of the forest…
