In this world, there are many different societal rules that everyone must abide by or be met with severe consequences. The rules pertain to many things such as gender inequality and sexism, norms about marriage, when and when not to have children, etc. The interesting thing about this world is that there's little to no racism or racial stereotyping... unless you're a Kalashtar.

Kalashtars are human-like and blend in completely with humans. The only difference is that they have Astéri connected to them- spirit-like creatures that are unique to Kalashtars. No one is sure why the Kalashtars were targeted and witch-hunted, but they were. Their numbers have dwindled and the rest have tried to blend in to society around them to avoid the same fate.

This is the story of Lorelei Miriam Gilligan-Adkins. A bright young girl who has been taught to hide who she truly is. Join Lorelei as she makes her journey through her rather turbulent life.
