Ashton grips her hand tightly; his thumb rubs the back of it in gentle circles. "My beautiful Wendy," he whispers to her, looking down her frail, beaten body. His eyes fall on her arms, cut vertically from her palm to her elbow. "I love you," he says, his tears coming out faster. He begins to violently sob. He places a hand over his mouth, awed by the corpse Summer has become. The only sounds are the slow, fragile beats of the heart monitor and Ashton's wracking cries. He struggles for breath, "I love you. And I know how miserable you were in this world. And I know you couldn't fight any longer." Ashton bites his fist to keep from screaming. His eyes are bloodshot, his cheeks red streaked and covered in tears. "And I- I," he grits his teeth, "I hate that I wasn't enough to make you want to live. So for that," he looks up to the hospital ceiling. "I let you go. You can go, baby. I love you and I need you but I know this is what you wanted. Just follow where the sky leads you," he says, hyperventilating so much his whole body shakes in huge tremors. "Second star to the right," he takes a deep, shaking breath, only to release it in a sharp sob. "and straight on till morning." He squeezes her hand once more, before he collapses, dropping to his knees and laying his head on her stomach. "I'm sorry," he whispers over and over again until the room goes dark. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."
