There were lots of other mages gathered in the plaza, addressing the arkaetres they had ridden with curt nods or short dialogue. The doors to the building were big enough for even the largest dragon to enter, but still only a small imperfection in the huge structure. I knew the door was the size of a dragon because I could see one to compare it to, flying above the dome. Then I realized that the dragon was black. "Dad? Look up there." 

He looked up and cocked his head in confusion. "I've never seen anything like that before." The beast was quite high in the sky and didn't look particularly threatening, but it still spooked me to see an arkaetre that wasn't white. After watching the shadowy dragon for a few more moments, my dad said slowly, "It seems like they have no rider. We should probably tell the Council about this." 

I nodded and followed him inside the dome. "But what about the opening ceremony?" I asked nervously, looking down at my watch. 

"We've got some time."

I tried to find the jewelry she had mentioned when I spotted a small wooden jewelry box with their family crest on it. I had opened the box to find 4 rings. Two larger ones and two smaller ones. All four had their family crest on it with a ruby in the center of the rings. Dimitri had walked by the opened door and saw me looking in the box. And this is how I have ended up with his hand tight around my throat. Slam "I told you never to come in this room!" Dimitri roared. His hand is slowly tightening around my throat. It's getting harder to try to get out of his hold. "I.." He interrupted me. "You what!?" He yells. "Can't." I couldn't finish my sentence. "I can't hear you!" He growls low and dangerous. "Breathe!" I struggle to get out. Slam!! My skull echoed throughout the room for the 4th time. My head has bounced off the wall. Oxygen is slowly leaving my body and I can barely hold on. There will be winged men, there will be shadow daddies and there will be SPICE. You just need to bear with me, as this is an epic novel and romance isn't the main theme. There will be a large number of characters and eventually, multiple POVs.
