Vampires managed occupy two thirds of the population of Earth in five years, though did not expect what other effects the radiation had on us. Our blood was contaminated, unable to be consumed by the vampires. The fate of the vampires were sealed until the first Divine appeared.

A divine is one who is born without imperfections and mutations caused by the world's nuclear past. One divine occurs in every 80 people and due to their limited numbers they are taken to Tamerus to be gradually drained of their blood to feed the vampire population. Tamerus is the one place were death by the age of twenty-one is a certainty.
