Leo Newman is a 14-year-old boy who has spent almost his entire childhood in foster care. Both of his parents died when he was a toddler and lived in 5 different foster homes throughout the Midwest, until his big escape at age 13. He was forced to survive on his own for several months. He eventually was so desperate that he jumped off of the roof of a building to end his life of constant pain and suffering, but he was rescued and taken to a hospital for treatment. The family that rescued him took him home and decided to adopt him on his 14th birthday. But now that he finally has a family of his own, he has to adjust to his new life as a normal teenage boy.
