Her story ends with death. Not Maya's, nor a relative but of a person that she believed to be a friend. She was not sure if they were friends. Looking back she couldn't be more unsure what that person was to her. "You know what to do." Was the last words of Eva to Q. She handed him a box and he had no clue. The next day she died. There are people in brief moments of their lives who will help you one way or another. For a kid, that can be a game changer. It can be in the grandest way or the most low key; a person that will help you with a math test, a person that lends you lunch money or even when a person just holds out their hand and includes you in a group. Those smallest kind gestures can change a kid or at least their perspective. Helping solve a test, can make the kid believe he or she isnt dumb. Lending money can ease a poor kid's hunger. And including someone in a group makes a depressed kid feel wanted. Eight years ago in high school Maya at 16 had someone to help her. And the present Maya at 24, was as lost as she was back in high school. That death was of her helper, Eva. Going back to her hometown was against Maya's plans or her own vows in life that she was going to be somebody after graduation and never return. But as soon as she finds out what happened to Eva, she went back home. Maya never thought Eva, even after death, was going to help her again. And Maya's story starts with a box.
