Having read the whole story, Oliver knew the consequences of his actions.
Transmigrated in a world at it's tipping point, where one mistake can very well end it.
Oliver walks down the very same path as the antagonist to avoid altering the future.
Changing only what's necessary to avoid the deadly butterfly effect for he wasn't the only villain in this story.
