Life has not been easy for Allison Ray. Shoved from one place to another has lead her to distrust others. Being bound to a wheelchair, and having a not so clean record, leaves her only one final option when the rest of the world is fed up with her: A special-needs grouphome. It's either that or prison.

Allison hates the place before even seeing it, and the school she is forced to attend doesn't make things any better. The hostile attitude of the new girl gives ground to rumors of a shady past. But how much of it is true? And how much should be kept burried?

Coming of Age is about the tragic experiences some teenagers go through and many others are aware of. The story explores themes like identity, ambition, love, trauma, forgiveness, free will, and redemption. Sensitive subject matter like drug addiction, extreme poverty, abuse, and violence are touched on, but in an honest, non-exploitative way. The story is based on my experiences as a teenager dealing mental health issues and the people I knew. Writing is my way to raise awareness of the issues I went through. I want to speak to people who can relate to my story and bring understanding to those that don't.
