Pearl Fariñas is determined to graduate as valedictorian.  Coming from the bottom tier of the entire class, she finds it difficult to make friends in the Star Section.  Her academic performance earns her the opportunity to represent the school in a quiz bowl.  Just as she is gaining favor among her peers, she gets involved in an accident, leading to her suspension.  

Fresh from her domestic turmoil, Pearl returns to school and discovers her old friends have forgotten her.  With renewed determination, she needs to forge new alliances, maybe even romance, to achieve her goals.
