2022 AD: off the coast of Santorini the US vessel Destiny finds a mysterious metal ring... The symbols on its surface resemble those on the Phaistos Disk.

Professor Lionhill and his former archaeology student Lara Mellini find the right sequence of symbols to activate the ring, which turns to be a time portal leading to Ancient Rome. Lara and a US marine, Fernández, are sent through the portal back in time. Their mission doesn't go as planned, but they manage to come back to the year 2022. Unexpected, and unwanted, a Roman legionary follows them through the portal, and is now loose on the streets of Rome...
