I had lost him. I let him walk out the door to help Justin and Rosette in New York get accustomed to being apart of his Chapter there...

'I promise I'll only be gone for two weeks babe. Just long enough to set things right there. It'll be fine, you won't have to worry!'
I had frowned up into those beautiful brown eyes that held bits of golden flecks throughout. My stomach had churned with unease, my gut telling me that this wasn't as easy as he had believed.
I nodded and smiled, 'I trust you I just... It's been four years since Roman and I just... I am still having trouble letting it go. I don't want anything to happen to you. Can I really trust that the New York chapter will have your back?'
It had been foolish of me at the time to question that notion, but I couldn't have helped it. He only smiled, nodded, gave me a delicious kiss, and then left with Asher to the airport.

Had I know that that would be the last time I saw him for quite sometime I'd have done everything in my power to keep him with me... With us...

We were a team. A confidence team, gaining your trust and ripping you off for every penny we could squeeze out of you. Stealing millions between pickpocketing, elaborate schemes against the rich, and knocking off banks; we made it big. We were good, really good at what we did. This time we were too greedy. We couldn't pass up a 4 million dollar art con. Each couple would have walked away with 2 million dollars and we could have settled down and finally started the family we had talked about for years. But he disappeared......in the middle of the night, abandoning me. Until he returned with a bullet hole in his arm and desperation in his eyes. Begging me to help him one last time, but could I ever forgive him? Could I ever look past his betrayal of leaving me in Tennessee to fend for myself and fight off the cops myself? ●●●●●●●●●●●●●● "What were the first words you ever spoke to me?" He asked softly, his thumbs wiping away the wetness from my cheeks. "No." I choked out. "Don't! I don't want to say it." "You said...Hi, my name is Alexis and I just moved into my grandparent's house across the street. Can I play with you? And I knew the moment I laid eyes on you...." "You were 10 years old, you didn't know shit." I croaked. "I may have been 10, but I knew a beautiful girl when I saw one. And you blew the rest of the world out of the water. I may have saved you by leaving you in Tennessee, but at least you still had your grandparents. I had no one if I didn't have you."

Madison thought she had closed the door on Tayler forever. Two years ago, she walked away, leaving behind the only boy who ever truly knew her-the one who made her feel safe, seen... and ultimately, shattered. She swore she'd never look back. But now, fate has other plans. Thrown back into each other's lives, Madison tells herself she's over him. That what they had is nothing more than a distant memory. But Tayler? He makes forgetting impossible. He's still the same cocky, flirtatious guy who knows exactly how to push her buttons-and pull her back in. Every lingering glance, every teasing remark feels like a dangerous game, and she's not sure she knows the rules anymore. But between them stands more than just unfinished business. New love, tangled emotions, and the unshakable weight of what once was. Madison knows she should keep her distance, but when it comes to Tayler, that's always been easier said than done. "You still look at me the same way," she muttered, hating the way her voice wavered. Tayler smirked, stepping closer, his voice low and daring. "And you still get flustered when I do." She should leave. She should mean it this time. But what if their story was never meant to end-just to begin again?
