Riley thought his life couldn't get any worse after his best friend, first love, his everything betrayed and outed him to not only his mom but his entire school. Then came the bullying, the move from a northern city to the middle of nowhere south, more bullying, and then Harold, handing out diamonds and cars to his Riley's mom and bruises to Riley. But after a Harold takes things too far one night and violates him in every possible way, Riley decides that the scales might forever keep tipping the wrong way. Then Riley meets Eli, a breath of fresh air, a companion and distraction from everything going on at home. But there are things even Eli can't save him from, depths of darkness Harold seems desperate to pull him down to, places where the sun doesn't reach. Soon Riley realizes he's going to need to find the strength to surface on his own, to speak out and save himself before it's too late.
