His eyelids flutter and he licks his cracked lips, a movement my eyes linger on. He looks around and for a second, confusion flashes across his face before he plasters on a mask of indifference. His muscles flex to no avail as he fights against his restraints. A hissing sound fills the air and the stench of burning flesh encases the room, a smell I wish I was unfamiliar with.
And my heart clenches as his dark gaze meets mine.
