'The Shortest Pain' is a testimony to Fred D'Aguiar's gripping exploration of life which is 'The Longest Memory'. It is a first person account regarding the death of Chapel within the main story from another character's perspective, specifically a character who has been invented as a plantation owner who happens to hear Mr Whitechapel at the Gentlemen's Club one fateful night.
