Well, they're more like edgy teenagers, but whatever. Close enough.

The stories aren't connected to each other. It's pretty much a series of vignettes.
Also, in this, Stands and their users have different memories, and don't necessarily share the same emotions at any given time. However, users do have a slight psychic link with their Stands, which allows them to pick up on general changes in their emotional state, although it's more of a gut feeling of "they're okay/not okay", rather than "x, y, and z is happening".
Stands can be 'summoned' and 'de-summoned', but it's more like teleporting the Stand to/from a set 'room', like a save point in a video game. For example, if Jotaro 'de-summons' Star Platinum, it'll get teleported to its room. If he 'summons' it, it'll get teleported from its room to him. Most Stand users rarely 'summon'/'de-summon' their Stands.
