Shelby Herondale has had a hell of a life. After fighting in both the Mortal War and the Dark War, all she wants to do is relax and hunt demons with her brother and their friends. And for a while, that's what she gets, until a strange demon crosses her path. When it touches her, she is caught up in a whirlwind that leaves her unconscious.
When she wakes, she's not only no longer in New York, but she's not even in her own time period. Devastated by the fact that she can never go home again, she allies herself with Will Herondale (AKA her great-great-great-great-grandfather) and the other Shadowhunters of his time against the evil of a man --or thing-- that calls itself the Magister.
