Skylar was raised to believe she was nothing. Hatred and solitary was all she ever has. It's not what she wants, but it's all she's familiar to. Darkness and pain is what defines her, for these are the things she turns to. It's her comfort zone. She knows nothing can save her, because no matter how far she runs, she can't hide. There is nothing she could do. Nothing. She was empty. Lucas, on the other hand, was done. He was drained with hope. Lost in darkness. Drowned in hatred. He was fading. Forgotten. Lost. He was empty. His eyes and emotionless actions trigger a great war within Skylar. But through it all, she realizes how much she's really worth. She may not be saved, but was she really worthless?

Lucas is a boy trapped in his own thoughts, trapped in a world of loneliness. His ADHD makes it hard to concentrate, and his creative mind offers him only a temporary escape. At school, he is the target of bullies. At home, no one seems to really see him. Even his psychologist-who is paid to help-doesn't seem to understand the depth of his pain. But there is more to Lucas than anyone suspects. What begins as small acts of rebellion-lying, stealing-slowly evolves into something much darker. His anger and loneliness take on increasingly grotesque forms. He has no way out, except the destructive power he discovers within himself. Each time he strikes, he leaves a message behind: "Alone." A word the world doesn't understand until it's too late. As the line between art and horror blurs, Lucas loses his grip on reality. His masterpieces become violent, gruesome, and irreversible. Eventually, there is only one way left. But can he escape the echo of his own despair, or will loneliness swallow him up forever?
