Liam has uncontrollable urges to commit murder, and he's fighting the battle within himself because he knows it's wrong. Everyday the battle gets stronger and stronger as the urges force him to make unforgivable and permanent mistakes. He challenges himself to withstand the urge and go as long as possible without killing but just like with most addicts, the addiction takes over and he fails his mission. During the uncontrollable rage he's inhumane, disturbing and psychotic. He's blinded by the desire to kill so he doesn't even realize what he's doing in the moment. After he realizes what he has done, he's remorseful and disgusted with himself but at that point he can't take it back, as much as he wants to.
