15-year-old Chimamanda is one of the many black students at West Regals Highschool. She lives in Illinois, Chicago, in one of the poorer neighborhoods in the city. She is biking home one day from school when she hits a car and is admitted into the hospital. Soon after, she is expelled from her school from lack of attends and her mother is fired by her new supervisor because of her color. Since the only source of income in the Nguyen family runs dry and the hospital bills begin to pile up, they are forced to leave their current neighborhood and use the remaining money to move into Dunterham Heights neighborhood, a rich, all-in-all community. After they move, COVID-19 makes its mark and deprives Chimamanda and her family of any leftover money that was once available. Now that the talk of racial injustice begins and COVID-19, life for the only poor black family around - deteriorates.
