Nilsa Walker is an illegitimate daughter of the infamous Walker family. Her brown skin is her only known physical feature, as she always covers her face with a mask and cap. Even during school days, she is a mystery. At the age of 21, she is scorned by her family and everyone around her. Over time, she has become numb to their treatment.

When her father suddenly commands her to marry someone in place of her sister, Nilsa is caught off guard. But at the same time, what good does it do to stay with them? However, soon after the marriage takes place, Nilsa realizes that she has bigger problems to deal with. Her husband's bad temper only adds to the turmoil. And then there are the three overbearing in-laws that she must contend with.
