15-year-old Alan and his Mom drive almost seven hours from Philadelphia to Cleveland late on a Monday night so they can escape the man who dares call himself Alan's father. After staying a day at his aunt's house and dropping their car off at a dealership, they take a flight to Long Beach, California. Alan and his Mom have gone through too much in the last three years and they both want nothing more than to live a normal life. All this started a few months after Alan came out to his mother, brother, and father. That was almost three years ago. Now, as they try to live as normally as possible, who will come into their lives? Will they be accepted into the new town or will Alan's sexuality ruin his chance of ever making friends in this unfamiliar town?
