The word goodbye reminded me of something we were expecting. I had been informed that Atheros and Maisara were assigned to take him home in a few weeks. I wondered whether he would see his friend of more than six decades again before then. He was frail; he knew he would have to leave earth soon.
"Aunty Lucy.... Byeee," yelled Ogechi. Lucy leaned over and gave her a hug. Given her calm and composed disposition it would be very hard for someone who didn't know her to believe she was the ever-active, ever-vocal teenager Modupe Eluigwe had had such a hard time raising. They said their good byes warmly and left. If I were human, I would have shed a few tears.
Twilight was approaching and the crowd was thinning out. A few children were running around, the couple was waiting for their hired yatch scheduled to take them all the way to Calabar. The home owners, Dr. and Mrs. Eluigwe, were still sitting by each other on rocking chairs in the garden, again, recalling memories.
"His time is up you know..."
"What?"
"He is done."
"When will he be going home?"
"Seventy-two hours."
"OK. What about his wife?"
"I cannot tell yet."
"OK. Do you think he has done well?"
"There is only one Judge."
"Yes, there is."

"I'm going to take care of you and the kids, Grace." Oh. I just...I get this feeling within me that just warms me throughout. "You already are, Joe." "I know, but I mean in a different way. I've been doing that as an outsider. I'd like to be a part of your family." "Joseph...you've been a part of our family for years. We've never thought of you in any other way." It's the truth. His eyebrows raise and he stares at me for a while. Then he nods. I smile gently and he kisses my cheek again then gives me a smoldering look. "Thank you." He brings one of my hands to his lips, pressing a kiss to it, his eyes still fixed on mine. My breath catches with the intensity there. "I love you, Grace." The sincerity in his words are as clear as day. All at once, I feel so incredibly grateful to have him in my life and I find tears springing up. His gaze softens as he sees them. Ordinarily I would try to hide this obvious sign of vulnerability, but I don't. There's no reason to with him. "I love you too." He smiles gently and then turns his head towards my hand still on his face, pressing a tender kiss to my palm. ~~~ This is an age gap interracial (bwwm) Christian romance that involves Joe, a widower, and Grace, a widow of six years and family friend. Joe has just lost his wife and Grace is there for him as he works through a grief that she is unfortunately familiar with. As the years go by and he continues to heal, their friendship develops into something more.

A Spinoff From the Grace Series I skim my fingers along my woman's arm as she reclines back, seated in my lap with her back resting against the cushioned arm of the wooden bench we worked on together. I built it and she painted it. And each one of our kids put their handprints on it. My darling sewed cushions to tie on during the warm days so we can sit out here comfortably. Now we enjoy the fruits of our labor together. And I'm speaking about the couch and our marriage. "How did we start?" she asks languidly, her eyes shut. Her coily hair frames her face in the afro she has it in. She's dolled up a bit with her dress and earrings. She's got nowhere to go, but she does it to feel perked up for the day. I'm fine with that, but she knows I'm just as fine if she's wearing one of those old nightgowns she has, or in her birthday suit. "You were always passing me by," I hold Kemi's hand and with my other one, I use my finger to trace her facial features. I love every one of them. I gently go over her brows then go to her cheeks that are a lovely rounded shape. I move onto her cheekbones, which sit a bit high. My finger trails down to her jaw and her lips as they curve up in a smile. "But to be fair, I passed you by as well, darlin'." The way we met, and the way we began, is all part of a story that is beyond us and I like to think back on it often. I like to think back on how the Lord made something new out of something broken. ~~~ This technically comes after Grace but can be read alone (and before or after Redemption). As with "Grace", this is an age-gap interracial romance about faith, love, and healing. Forewarning: This story discusses a darker theme that may not be suitable for a younger audience. Although, things are still done in a God-honoring way. Unlike Grace, this story is more of a short story and will likely contain less than 25 chapters. It follows Kemi and Fred, the close friends of Grace and Joe.

"Listen to me Qurratul Ayn, before you go, I want to know; did I ever offend you? Is my love for you too little?" I can feel his hand hovering over mine. He wants to hold it, but he knows better than to do that. "Please, I don't want to do this now. My flight is in thirty minutes." I can feel the tears wetting my Niqab. "No! I want to know. Where did I go wrong? Was it money? I didn't feed you well? I didn't clothe you? My love wasn't enough for you? I need to know, all those years! You're seriously willing to throw them away like they were nothing?" A sob breaks out but I manage to hide it behind a cough. I take a silent deep breath and turn, my Niqab swaying and making a whip sound. "It's not like, they really were nothing! Look, I don't have it in me to explain myself. You said you'd give me whatever I want? Then leave me be. I never loved you okay! I never did, it was all a sham, a facade!" His hand that was looming over mine falls limp beside him and he staggers back. "You're lying." He laughs. It's as if he's trying to convince himself. I scoff. "You think so? Well take a look at this." His eyes fill with tears and he takes one of his hands and place it on his mouth. He can't believe that it's actually true. "Okay, Fa'iza." My heart breaks. He never calls me that, ever. "I know something is wrong, and wallahi I'm going to find it out and bring you back to my house in six months. I promise." I feel my heart squeeze knowing his promise can never come to pass, ever. Death is nearing me so nothing can be done.
