Ever since he was a kid, Ezekiel dreamed of life on the surface. He wished for an escape from the poverty he was born into, and the knowledge to pull himself from the Shelves of Euryphos. In a society where magic is commonplace, but only the rich have the means to use it freely and have their children learn it at university, Ezekiel attempts to break through the societal barriers thrust upon him as not only a dark elf, but also a kid from the shelves.
Ezekiel's life turns upside down as he navigates life in the big city, and searches for higher learning at the most prestegious magical institution on the continent: Arael's House of Mages. But Ezekiel, like everyone else in the grand city, holds dark secrets which are slowly coming back and tangling him in the web of a life he once lived.
