Kozume Kenma has recently uprooted to the Nerima Ward in Tokyo. School isn't easy, he can't seem to concentrate or shake off the attention of some easily angered upper classmen. The captain of the volleyball team, Kuroo Tetsurō, takes him under his wing. 
Kuroo is determined to make Kenma fall in love with both Tokyo and volleyball. He's sure he can craft a protege out of the surprisingly agile younger boy in time for Spring Nationals. 
Their relationship quickly intensifies into a strange and unique intimacy, though everything may not be as it seems...
