Ebony fights to survive. Whether they wander the streets, or perform in a circus, they are determined to live. And, being a Pyro, they're given a choice at a young age: Work for a Ringerleader, or die by the teeth of the monarchy.

But, despite the hype, they're never actually asked to light it up. Just "Keep your head down."

So, Ebony grows up, befriends an invincible boy and a water-controlling psychic, and mostly enjoys their life in the cirque... up until everything goes wrong. The Kings and Queens of Eb's world ask them to perform for the world, and even after yearning for this opportunity for years, they fear the worst:

Bad performers get bad endings. And something told Eb that tricks weren't the only thing the Sovereigns wanted them to do.
