Students in 7th year at Hogwarts were given the chance to continue their studies in 8th year. This was set up for the students so that they could continue their magical education. All younger students were to repeat their year before moving on to the next year. Studies would continue just as normal as ever. Harry was happy to have one more glorious year with his friends before continuing into the magical world on his own.
