The year is 100 AG and Yarraya, a fifteen-year-old from the Southern Water Tribe, has just made the worst mistake of her life.
After the Fire Nation raids rendered her family penniless, Yarraya joined an underground fighting club for non-benders... and because Yarraya couldn't bend, it was perfect.
Or so she thought.
When a waterbending accident occurs during one of her matches, Yarraya finds herself fired from her previous job and hired by someone else: a wealthy family from the Northern Water Tribe. They were impressed by her disregard for the rules, had already witnessed an example of her powerful waterbending abilities, and they figured she would be a great addition to the elite of the North...
But here's the problem: Yarraya isn't actually a waterbender.
[Disclaimer: I own none of the characters in "Avatar: The Last Airbender" original series. My original characters will be listed (along with details) in a chapter dedicated for that purpose, and any uncanny similarities between these characters and any existing person is purely coincidental. While the major plot points of the series will remain the same, I may stray from the original storyline, including (but not limited to): introducing canon and non-canon characters, adding characters to scenes in the series, and adding scenes not originally in the show. Also note: this is my first ATLA fanfiction, and I will more than likely make a few mistakes in my story-telling. Feel free to (kindly) use the comment section to give corrections, point out inaccuracies, ask questions. and offer constructive criticism.]

"And lastly, we are free, but we are not our own persons."
At this, the student frowned and looked up at her teacher. "How can that be free?"
The beautiful woman smiled, but it didn't reach her eyes like it usually did. It was a sad smile. "You will learn it all eventually, little one. For now, we must practice your footwork."
Mentored from youth by the most notorious entertainer in all of Fire Nation, Chiyo is destined to follow her path to greatness. However during the time of war and chaos, she must decide: Should she do what is right? Should she do as her mentor had always done? Or should she follow her heart?
I do not own any of the characters except for the OCs I've introduced. I do not own the pictures used in the cover and those to be used in reference to future chapters. Any historical details I impart on this story is not entirely accurate and is based only on my limited knowledge of the subject.
Anyways, please enjoy!
