Calista jolted awake when she smelled it. The smell of burning wood surrounded her and she immediately jumped up. The cabin was on fire. Of all the things she thought she would do; this one hadn't occurred to her. She had underestimated just how cruel she really was. She silently cursed, Kendrick, the man she loved for no believing her as she ran towards the door. She had told him, but he had brushed her off. Now she was trapped in a burning cabin because of his disbelief. She cursed out loud when she realized it had barricaded closed. She gave up on the door as she turned. She then saw the window, but when she tried to open it, she found it also nailed shut. A small whimper of fear escaped her as she ran to the biggest of the windows. She dropped her shoulder and charged it. It was going to hurt, but the flames were already licking at her feet and she knew she didn't have long. The second the glass shattered, she felt pain before she was thrown back into the burning cabin. The landing was rough and knocked the wind out of her. She was just starting to recover when she heard the laughing. Outside the window, she saw her as she looked at Calista and laughed. "I always win and when he finds out about your accident, he will come to me for comfort. I will comfort him of course and when he asks me to be his new mate, I will say yes and will sit among the Alpha Council as a queen like I have always deserved. "Calista heard over the roar around her. Crazy bitch, Calista immediately thought as she looked around the cabin for another way out. There was a storm cellar under the cabin, she remembered as she raced for the opening that would lead her out. She never made it though. The cabin gave a loud groan and she screamed as one of the columns came down and landed on her right side. It burned and the smell filled her nose as she cried, realizing there was no way a wolf-less shifter could lift such a heavy beam. Was this how it ended?

The thought was too horrifying. She grinned, "I see you've figured it out." She clicked her tongue,"But that also means we have to let you go a little sooner." I frowned at her words. What? She walked towards me with a sly smirk, I shrunk back into the chair, not caring that some splinters pierced my shirt. I felt her insert the key and turning it ever so slowly.
