**A twist on the Lee-Laurens duel in which John gets shot instead**
Alex knew he wouldn't be able to sleep. Not that night, not for the next three nights. See, anytime he closed his eyes he could hear the bullet as it exploded from the barrel of the gun; see John as the color drained from his face, staggering backward trying everything he could to stay upright. He could feel his friend as he trembled in his arms, struggling to catch his breath; smell the pungent fumes of gun powder enveloping the two and taste his tears, feeling himself fall apart from the inside out.
So keeping these things in mind, no, sleep, in fact, was not an option.

His soulmate, John Laurens, knows it too, from the overwhelming waves of sadness he feels occasionally to the aching pains in his forearms. John wishes that he could help him, but he knows nothing about his soulmate. However, the odds are in Alexander and John's favor when Alex enrolls in Kings College, where John is a student. John might find Alex, but will it be in time? Can he save him from James Reynolds? WARNINGS: There is rape, angst, depression, cursing, and lots of other stuff that is inappropriate for young reader. I can't stop you though. Basically how the soulmate thing works like: When you kiss your soulmate, a band in your skin forms on your left ring finger. You can change the band to look however you want. If your soulmate is feeling a strong emotion, your soulmate feels it too. If you get hurt, your soulmate feels a muffled version of that pain. Yes I used a Heathers quote as the title FIGHT ME (Don't actually I'm weak, there's a reason I act instead of playing sports) (Not that acting/dancing/singing isn't hard but ya). I really had no idea what I was doing when I started writing this so sorry if it's weird or things don't make sense.
