Kurosaki Ichigo had just lost all his spiritual energy ( Reiryoku). He is now no longer a Shimigami (soul reaper) and can no longer see spirits.
Karin, Ichigo's sister had always been able to see spirits. However, hollows start appearing around her and her friends.
