Her mother had just left the house, and the phone was ringing. She picked it up. Her sisters, Bouran and Lina, gathered around her. "Hello?" No answer. "Hello?" "Far from you, my life is in despair. Don't push me away." Um Kalthum played through the receiver. "Hello?" No answer. She hung up. Her sisters looked at her. "Who was it?", they said in unison.
