Dragon slayer, Kilain, has lived years learning and then teaching the art of bonding with, understanding, and protecting dragons. After her dragon, Daer, went feral and she was forced to kill him, she grew to accept that even with the remnants he left her, she will never be the same again. Without a dragon, she will never have the same strength or speed she once did. But more importantly, she'll never have another partner in life like she had with Daer.

Kilain knows the statistics, a partner can't live long without their other half. But every day she breathes, that she stays sane, she sets another record. No other pair separated by death has made it as long as she has. But there's a reason for that, Daer left her something when he died, a secret she will take to her grave. She may not be a mighty dragon like her partner was, but what would she know, she's not a rider anymore either.

In fact . . . she's barely human.

Illara had trained all her life for this moment. She had been chosen - from all eligible women throughout the three kingdoms - to be presented to the dragon. Her noble sacrifice would ensure the safety of her lands for a full year. She glowed with pride at the thought. And any moment now the massive dragon would come soaring over the mountains, his massive strength and awesome power - What was this? Along a rocky pass, moving with the persistence of a love-struck cow, was something metallic. Something shiny. Her heart thundered with panic as the object drew closer and resolved into a shape. For she knew it could ruin everything. It could cause the destruction of all she held dear. It was a knight. * * * Half of all proceeds of the Dragon novelettes benefit battered women's shelters. While this first book is non-explicit, due to the strong sexual content and adult situations in future books, this romantic suspense series is recommended for readers aged 17+. The series is structured for readers to read along as I write them to offer feedback and suggestions on the complex storyline. If you're the style of reader who would prefer to wait until the entire series is finished before you tackle it, that is fine! Simply wait until the series is complete and I'll offer the boxed set. I do that with all of my books. The reason I publish as I write is that I don't write full time and it can sometimes take months for me to finish up a storyline. There are readers who don't want to wait - who would rather read along as I go and stay engaged in the process. That way they can provide feedback and suggestions on the storyline. Whichever way works well for you, I provide an option. I'd love to hear from you at my website at OpheliaSikes.com.

["What do you search for in life, issei? What gets you out of bed every morning? Well, I've found my answer, and I've decided to dedicate my whole life to it!" ] ______________________ Will and desire are what run this world. As without it, not a damn thing would get done. For those who desire nothing and rise out of their beds without purpose, they're truly dead. As they, without a reason to live, are only left to exist. It is ambition that shapes our destiny, and by it, our future is molded. For by will, you gain power. And by the power you gain the means to make your dreams a reality. That is the rule of thumb which the supernatural world runs by. Might makes right. For by the power of sacred gears, the user's will is manifested into world-shattering strength. So what does a man do when he wishes to change the world? He wills it. He sets off on a path that shall divide and alienate his character from the rest. He must be a cut above the rest, with a character that is eventually seen as the right way to live. For by having a will and drive greater than the rest, his heart shall impose the world to fit his image. That is how all leaders are born. It is how all gods are born. And, in this world which is at the center of the chaos made by those clamoring to stand at the top, he is the answer to all of our problems. ["You're calling yourself the solution to tyranny?"] ["No, I am not, but I can't stop what they believe and call me, only live up to it."] _______________ Let the story begin!

In a small village, half hidden along a mountainside, Kieren was slinking between shadows. Footsteps sure even with so little moonlight. The softest brush of bare skin against knobbled and far-reaching trees. Not even a whisper of sound from stepping on the coarse dirt beneath his feet. In this world, Drakes were the epitome of power amongst the species. Only making up 10% of the population, humans making up the other 90%. Drakes could be found in the highest positions of power in communities or in positions to protect others (such as guards, watchmen, knights, patrolman). No one questioned this, dragons taking care of their own. A private species with traditions and rules that only dragons were privy to. Making sure none over-reached so that there would always be peace and harmony amongst the dragon territories and between humans. A symbiosis that all worked hard to maintain. Humans were born with vibrant and colorful hair throughout the world. The more rare the color, the more blessings, respect, luck and riches came to them. Fiery red, leafy green, aqua blue. Eyes that matched their brightest feature. Dressing in the same colors or even brighter shades to demonstrate their extravagance, their standing in society. They normally worked side by side with the higher ranking dragons, helping to keep harmony. All Kieren knew was that he would have to remain cloaked, face obscured at all times. The villagers said he was a defect, so they made him their servant. His skin too pale. Form too slight. Eyes not right. An ugly thing where he should be thankful they did not kill him right away. To be grateful for their pity and staying their hand. The worst, they would tell him, was about the coloring of his features; his hair and eyes. It was a color that had never been seen before amongst humans or dragons. *Please read tags! Don't like, don't read, don't leave unhelpful nasty comments.

As an avid- but pretty unsuccessful- writer of fantasy fiction, I know that dragons are pretty much the pinnacle of existence. I dare anyone to argue. So, when my mundane existence comes to an end and I am offered a choice of what ever race I liked upon reincarnating into a fantasy world, or course I chose dragon. Little did I know that my life as a dragon would take more than its fair share of twists and turns. But hey, I was a dragon... Everyone knows you don't mess with dragons.
