Delilah Lasting- or 'Lilo', to the few who are close to her- all but gave up her whole life when her father fell fatally ill. These days, she spends most of her time as his carer: managing his medicine and the housework, all the while balancing home duties with her studies. Nobody helps her- not another family member, and certainly not her old friends, including the ex-boyfriend who broke her heart.
Enter Khan Farid- the mysterious, charismatic new boy at school. Khan is as charming as it gets... on the outside. Inside, he hides a multitude of secrets that could threaten his family's security, and even their lives. Following a disastrous first meeting, Lilo wants to avoid Khan at all costs, but when the two get roped into doing lights for the school production together, this resolution is harder than ever to maintain. Especially as Khan seems to be the one person in her life who actually seems to care.
But worlds keep Lilo and Khan separate, and they're both soon to learn that no matter how much you love a person, it means nothing if you don't understand them. Both suffer within their life experiences- but that kind of connection only lasts as long as both sides keep trying. Will their struggle to maintain their relationship prove that two broken hearts don't make a whole? Or will it be the other way around?

Two stubborn people, different lives a terrible situation that brings them together and changes their lives forever. Maya is an 18 year old girl trying to live a normal life in a war torn country. She catches the eye of an Army man (Knox) who's on his last tour of duty. When sexual sparks start to fly between them, some unsavoury characters notice and they put Maya's life in danger. Knox is forced to choose in an instant to stand for duty or a girl he's beginning to like, thereby starting his own war. Knox is relieved of his duties and leaves a heartbroken Maya with a present that constantly reminds her of her real first love. She doesn't know where Knox is, except he is an American soldier. Life takes an awful turn that sees Maya and her family in a Refugee Camp in Kenya. Conditions in a refugee camp are terrible and not at all what she expected. The camp doesn't seem to offer any protection except to harbour some criminals. In the meantime, Knox returns to America and he leaves the army. He returns to help run his family's multi-billion dollar businesses. He has no clue what happened to Maya or where she is. Maya has no clue where Knox is or that he has the means to get her out of her current situation. She works hard, she's determined and she survives all that life is throwing her way. She grows as an independent, confident woman with something to prove. Her luck turns around when her family is accepted as refugees to America. Will she look for Knox? How will they meet? But it was enough to send him on a downhill spiral of a number of things: he goes through his own kind of depression, his previous perfect relationship with his parents is now gone, and his "golden boy" reputation is slowly deteriorating.
