High school in the early 90s: it was before cell phones and social media, but the problems were the same. How do you get the guy you're interested in to notice you? What happens if you fall in love with your best friend? Why does physics class keep factoring into your love life? This novella is loosely based on my own high school experiences... but sort of an alternate version of them. You can only make one set of choices in life, so it's fun to explore what could have been - but wasn't - in fiction. Also, set in 1991-92, this is kind of a period piece now! In some ways it's a love letter to the teen books I read back in the 80s and 90s, in particular those by Ellen Conford and Paula Danzinger. I hope you enjoy it. This story was featured on Wattpad in 2016.

What happens when you join the Marching Band? You play music of course, but there are also the band romances that make you stop and think. Maybe Danny will find more than just a friend. Danny is a musician at heart. Everyone in her family plays an instrument. Her Freshman year is coming up and she has to decide what to play and what to be in. Around April a sign-up sheet for Marching Band shows up on her doorstep. Signing up, she doesn't realize what she has gotten herself into. Jackson comes from a line of trumpets and other horn players. He was expected to join Marching Band as did his older brother Chase. He signed up and prepared for the first day of practice. On the first day of band camp, no one expected to be worked so hard in their life. Danny joined the Drumline and marched the second bass. Jackson played trumpet. I want him, and nothing else matters. Fuck the consequences, this is happening. *** He's pinning me down as his tounge slowly caresses mine, and I find myself automatically tangling my fingers through his hair, gently tugging and encouraging him. "Keep going." I whisper into his mouth, before pulling his lips back down on to mine. Our kiss is faster this time, much more urgent and passionate. I arch my back allowing him to slip his hands behind my back and undo my bra clasp. Then he hesitates. "I want you. All of you." I wrap my legs around his waist, fulling pressing his arousal up against mine, and he grunts. "Please." He breathes into my neck. I'm making this hard for him. Good. "We can't, it's not smart." "We can." I assure him. And without another moments hesitation, he's kissing me like I've never been kissed before and his hands are roaming all over my body, and my hands are tugging at his boxers and he's pulling my thong down.
