Katherine Shelley seems to have it all. But despite her white-privileged upbringing, her bubbly sister and her brilliant grades, she doesn't fit in anywhere. She has got no friends to speak of and her mother thinks that she is a loser. The more her conflict at home intensifies, the more her mental health deteriorates. Then she quite literally stumbles upon Henry, a boy of colour who has his own demons. Can he save her before it is too late?

The first book in the 'Sanity:' Trilogy Scarlett has been given the short end of the stick, born into a rich family and given the gifts of athletic and academic brilliance, she clearly overshadows her peers. However, her home life is less than spectacular with themes of sexual assault, emotional abuse, and self-harm painting the picture of her reality at home. When she finally has had enough and snaps, she's thrown into some of the worst experiences of her life. Read with Caution. "... A lighter was produced, a small piece of toilet paper in the other hand. A light, an ignition, and the flaming paper was dropped into the trash, igniting the waste as my own fire burned in that bed. My few, sacred fragments of sanity were burning. And it was only a matter of time before the rest of this house did too. Completed ✔ I watch a dazed Katherine. She whispered to herself. "Is this the part where I get kidnapped?" Is that what she thinks I'm here for? I don't want to kidnap her, just take her to dinner. I don't want Katherine thinking this. "Katherine I'm not here to kidnap you." She looks shocked by what I said. Katherine asked in a low voice. "If he's not, then what is he here for?" She's talking out loud to herself he concluded after that. Katherine wasn't paying attention to him. "To ask you out to dinner." Nicholas answers trying to get her attention so she realizes his intentions. "Katherine have dinner with me." "No, I can't" Katherine say after. He saw a look of confusion on her face. I'm being very clear. I don't see what she's confused about. "How do you know my name?" He hears her answering his own question. Why is she asking me this? I'm her best friend, of course I know her name. Nicholas didn't understand the previous question. "Because we've met before." The look that comes over Katherine's face is bewilderment. She doesn't get anything I'm saying. Its almost like I'm talking to a stranger. The thought shook Nicholas to his core because he's telling the truth. Katherine didn't believe him. He knew he's right after what she says next. "We've never met before aside from you stalking me," she tells him. Nicholas felt his entire world shatter around them. Katherine sounds like she doesn't know me. She sounds like someone who never met her bestfriend. She sounds like, a stranger... [1st draft ]

Beck is top of her class when it comes to Maths and Science and her future seems bright. However, she struggles with social anxiety and relationships. Beck is autistic and spends most of her life locked away in her own mind as she reads her collection of books to escape her abusive alcoholic father. But once her eyes meet a grey eyed boy from across the room her world won't be the same. (18+ violence, adult themes, bullying, harassment and other issues) Being Autistic myself I have put a lot of me in this book. I've exaggerated certain aspects for entertainment values but other than that this is how awkward I feel most of the time. I don't see many books by women who write about their experiences in a creative way to spread awareness in a fun and compassionate way. This is mine I guess. I hope you enjoy this short story.
