(Note: This is a Work in Progress book idea i've been playing with for some time! I have most of said book completed in terms of a first draft so I intend to publish on a regular schedule! Feedback is super appreciated!!)

The Old World is fading. The magic that once flew boundless throughout the world is now rarely found in the bloodlines of families. Those that possess it are taken or killed by the nobles who wish to consolidate its power. The beasts that once haunted every dark alley are few and far between. The real monsters flock the streets and choke the air.

This is not the tale of adventure and bravery where the adventurers slay the dragon. This is not the tale of forbidden love. This is the tale of 2 children struggling to scrape by, and a family torn at the seams, the story of a destiny not wanted and the things we do for family. A short story prompt for a writing club I'm in I had a month to write it and a 12.5k word limit! It deserves to be longer so I probably should have done something that works well with the limit, but I had a really fun time writing out a concept start for this larger story I'm working on :) Again, this is a concept story! it has it's flaws, I look forward to rewriting it sometime in the future :) The story will explain things somewhat as you read through, but if you would like, here is a setting synopsis: At the end of the 21st century humanity fell to a incurable blight, the Blood Curse, and civilization as it was known collapsed with it. It was only through the biological properties of vampires, whom have existed as long as humans, that humanity could safely stave off the curse. One thousand years later, humanity and vampires have grown together through this mutual need, human's needing their curses to be sated, Vampires needing human blood for sustenance. A once tumultuous relationship of predator and prey now was one of equal standing and reverence. Not all human's have taken kindly to this new order of things however, and societies do exist that reject vampires and dangerously brave the curse on their own. In recent years these human's have become more brave and more daring, and in an ambush on Wyatt's village, Karva the town vampire has been injured and cannot satiate the curse for a time, right when a young child, Kuuno, is in dire need of it. Wyatt, a fledgling vampire yet to conquer their thirst for blood, Yeshen a doctor's apprentice, and Kuuno, the young child, venture out into the woods set for the nearest village and it's vampire to save the young boy. In this thick forest and uncertain times, what will they discover, and will they make it to their destination safely?
