My first legit story (we're forgetting the (honestly embarrassing to me) past okay?) so it might not be the best but eh, I couldn't care less. There was an ordinary human named Alex whose life changed one day forcing them to go to hell and back while changing his whole identity and vanishing from the real world with this "hell" starting from a normal morning walk, but... maybe it's not so bad when you get used to it? I owed her a proper letter, I didn't write enough, but what could I say. It seemed like everyone else wrote so much more than me, but they probably had more people to write to than just their mom. Every time I tried to tell her what happened with Anne, what the trenches were like, how desperately I had to hold myself together, the agony I was always in, why should she know, what was the point. I never could figure out if it was kind or cruel that demons could never have demonic parents, my mom's humanity meaning she would never know how it was, and sometimes, like now, I wouldn't tell her if I could. I like being her invincible daughter, like no other succubus, how happy she was when I convinced her I would survive this, and I would, but she didn't need to know how, but I couldn't lie. My letter told her I was alive, not sick or injured, that I miss my home, I miss her, that I love her. It was what I could manage, so it had to be enough, she would understand. When I was 15 years of age, I was prepared to take my life. I watched an anime series called Neon Genesis Evangelion, and decided not to. 18 years later I wrote a book about everything that happened in-between. In my memoir/autobiography - The Journey So Far: A Transcultural Tale of Giant Robots, Abuse, Mental Illness, Spirituality and how Video Games and Anime Saved a Young Man's Life, I recount the story of how a young man faced with a myriad of crippling mental illnesses and a dysfunctional and abusive family kept afloat with the help of video games, anime, music, therapy and a host of other things. It is a tale of both tragedy and triumph - how I almost died on more than one occasion, but persevered and eventually found love, friendship, human connection and greater understanding of the world and its ways, as well as reconciliation with my abusers.
