I was brought up in a world where we had preventable manmade catastrophes, dying people who could be saved. And in that dark world, I found light, hope and a reason to live much later. But people had been without light for so long that the single lit candle was almost too bright to look at. But the flame still flickered. It flickered in the vulnerable way fire does.
