A long, long time ago, so long ago that Japan was called Daiwa and the sun goddess Amaterasu hadn't rose to prominence, creatures of all types roamed. There were the plentiful and mundane, but special humans, whose prayers the gods could draw power from. There were the curious and tricksy yokai, who lived amongst humans, whether they noticed or not. And then there were the obake. Creatures that were called abominations, neither human nor yokai, but still people.
